How To Write A Song

Happy New Year! I thought I would start 2017 off on a creative note by talking about songwriting. If you have never tried, there is no time like the present, especially for those like me who will be living in the cold and snow for the next few months. There is no better time to get creative than when you are cooped up during the cold winter months. There is actually a great February songwriting challenge called The RPM Challenge, which invites you to write and record an entire album in just one month.

So where do you begin? Well, it's the kind of thing that you need to just dive into whether you feel prepared or not and I strongly encourage you to do just that. To help, I have put together a short PDF called Songwriting: A Quick Start Guide to, well, help get you started! In it, you will find ideas about writing chord progressions, melodies and lyrics. You will also learn about song structure and you will learn a few ways to proceed when writing a song. And you don't have to do it alone. Writing with a partner can be an amazing experience. That's how I got started. So, why not give it a try? Leap, don't look. Here is to a happy, healthy and creative year.
